Join us this Lent

This Lent we are journeying with the resources from “A Sanctified Art” exploring the theme ‘Everything in Between: meeting God in the midst of extremes’. This theme encourages us to think about how we encounter God - often in a world which tells us things are black and white, our experience is that there is greyness and nuance. ‘Everything in Between’ seeks to explore the spaces ‘in between’ where God is present. We will do this by exploring a number of parables and encounters Jesus has in Luke on his journey to the cross (for example, the parable of the Good Samaritan, the story of Mary and Martha, the parable of the Lost Sheep, and the story of Zaccheus up the tree).

Over the next 6 weeks, we will have a number of ways you can encounter God this Lent:

Sunday worship - 9:30am each Sunday
including Holy Communion on: 15 March, 30 March, 6 April, 13 April, Maundy Thursday and Easter Day

Bible Studies - using the material from A Sanctified Art
7pm Wednesdays (starting 12 March) on
Zoom & 11am Fridays (starting 14 March) in person at Yarralumla Uniting Church
This year we are joining with our friends at Tuggeranong Uniting Church who are using the same materials for Lent. Their minister, Rev Amanda, and our minister, James, will jointly lead studies on Wednesday on Zoom (link above) with a reflective face to face option on Friday mornings.

Sundays @ 5 - a film night with a difference
Gather on a Sunday evening for a simple meal, a film and discussion. Starting at 5pm and concluding by 8:30pm at the latest.

Sunday 9 March   - ‘A River Runs Through It’ (Rated PG)

A gentle introduction to the Lenten journey, exploring themes of grace, sin, and redemption through the lens of family, nature, and faith.

Sunday 16 March - ‘Of Gods and Men’ (Rated M)

A powerful story of faith, sacrifice, and Christian witness, which deepens the Lenten themes of self-denial and trust in God.

Sunday 23 March - ‘Calvary’ (Rated MA)

A modern-day Passion narrative, centred on a priest facing his own "crucifixion" in the form of a moral and existential crisis.

Sunday 30 March - ‘Jesus of Montreal’ (Rated M)

A contemporary retelling of Christ’s Passion, highlighting how Christ’s story continues to challenge and transform.

Sunday 6 April - ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ (Rated PG)

A unique and dramatic portrayal of the Passion story, setting the stage for Holy Week with its emphasis on Christ’s final days.

Sunday 13 April  - ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ (Rated R)

A deeply contemplative and provocative film for the final week of Lent, inviting reflection on Christ’s humanity, suffering, and ultimate sacrifice. [Please note the R Rating for this film is due to high levels of violence and blood, some ‘full-frontal’ nudity. Viewer discretion advised].

Note - Many of these films deal with issues of an adult and mature content and many have language warnings. The purpose of this is not to offend, but to watch these films in a way to create discussion about the themes raised. Therefore, Sundays @ 5 (at least for Lent) is aimed at those over 18 years of age.
